Many people think of health in terms of only the physical body, but our emotional, mental, and spiritual states are just as intrinsic to our overall health. All are linked and work synergistically with each other. When one aspect is down inevitably the others will be dragged down as well. It is therefore important to allow adequate time and energy for each aspect to be nurtured. Taking time to ‘switch off’ is probably one of the best ways to look after the emotional and mental parts. Try things like meditating, reading a book or going to the movies, anything that allows you to stop thinking and simply be in the moment.
Health is not simply about being disease free but rather about achieving ones’ own level of optimal health and vitality. It is not necessarily about being perfect all the time but about finding a balance between enjoying life to its’ fullest and allowing the body time to recuperate and regenerate. Some people can become too obsessed with doing the right thing all the time that they forget to have fun, whilst others can become so caught up in having fun that they forget to nurture their body. It is more about compromise; if I eat well balanced food all week, I can indulge on the weekend etc. What works for one person may not have the same effect for another. We are all individual and yet at the same time we are all one!
