Lisa McGuigan - Potts Point Sydney
1. What made you first decided to get a personal trainer?
Working in a demanding job, it’s really easy to not have any focus on health and fitness. One day it just hit me how unfit and terrible I felt. I simply wasn’t doing any exercise, primarily as I was lacking both time and motivation. I was in the midst of establishing Tempus Two and working such crazy hours! I met my trainer Jack at a function. She came up to me and said “You need me …” Six months later after I’d recovered from the shock, I called her and have never looked back.
2. What have you achieved by having a personal trainer work with you?
Discipline and taking time out for myself would be the two most paramount achievements of having a personal trainer. I’ve really become focused on looking after myself and I exercise five days a week now. I have two sessions with Jack and the rest at the gym. I’ve amazed myself as I never saw myself a gym person but exercise is something I truly see as a necessity and would now never give it up. Not only has having regular sessions given me the discipline to exercise, I’ve realised that its truly ‘me time’ which in a job that involves so much travel and long hours is a blessing.
3. How has your training changed your lifestyle?
I’ve had to work hard to incorporate exercise and training into my lifestyle. As I travel so much, I now only stay in hotels that have an in-house gym. I think it’s really important for me to keep that sense of routine and I always feel so much better for it, especially if you are constantly eating out and getting on and off aeroplanes. It’s a true staple for me in staying well balanced and focused.
4. What do you love most about your training?
To be honest at first I didn’t know what hit me when I started training with Jack … but now I can’t live without her. Her sessions give me much needed balance to my day and the workouts really energize me.
5. What advice would you give to others?
I feel strange giving advice on something that for most of my life I had no real idea about … but I can truly say that if you push your boundaries you won’t believe the results that you can achieve. I am living proof!

Jacqueline’s say on Lisa McGuigan’s training
I have been training Lisa now for 3.5 years, her original goal was to reduce body fat and improve her overall fitness. As Lisa mentioned in her profile, one of the hardest aspects of getting Lisa active was her travel schedule and based on this we looked at ways Lisa could exercise whilst travelling this included bodyweight exercises that could be done anytime and in any place, and of course walking which can be done anywhere as cardio was a big part of Lisa initial training program.
Over the 3.5 years Lisa has grown leaps and bounds with her training and in the last 12-18 months, Lisa has discovered the benefits of training on a regular basis, her motivation has turned to drive and she now consciously exercises and eats well to reap the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
Lisa is on track to finish the year with her best results for both her weight and fitness. Lisa is a great example of a busy executive who has found a way to make exercise a part of her life for the rest of her life. She is also a pleasure to train due to her commitment and focus.

David Mackay - Potts Point Sydney
1. What was your original goal and how have your goals changed over time? Having decided to leave London and come to Australia my original plan was to abandon a previously highly stressful and unhealthy lifestyle and become an Aussie beach bum who could pass as a local in my Speedos. Subsequently I realised that once this selfish ambition had been reached, I actually enjoyed training and felt better for having a training routine.
2. What has been your key attribute to your success? My trainer Jack, has been pivotal to this realisation; driving me forward, energising me with her constant enthusiasm and teaching me that sweating and swearing are an essential stage on the road to personal fitness!
3. What advice would you give to others? Reaching even a modest level of fitness requires hard work and loads of commitment. It's not something you can pursue on a whim, pick up from a magazine article, achieve by eating healthy options or construct from a flat pack. Find a trainer you like, commit the time to seeing them regularly and stop if, after a few weeks you aren't feeling better about life and having fun!
5. How has exercise changed your life? Four years in, I may not be a completely new person, but I feel really good, am nicer to old ladies, understand the meaning of "gym etiquette" ..and notice that kids don't kick sand in my face any more.

Jill Johnson - Walsh Bay Sydney
1. What was your original goal? I turned 30 last year and decided it was time to lose weight and get fitter!
2. What has been your key attribute to your success?
Making exercise a habit has been my key to my success
so far. Before I joined Fitness Inside Out my exercise
routine ranged from sporadic to non-existent! I get
bored exercising 'just because' so now I make sure I always
have a goal or target to reach. Last year I finished
my first City 2 Surf and ran the whole way and that
was a massive achievement and motivation for me.
3. What advice could you give to others? Making exercise a habit means I don't struggle so much with my inner voice encouraging me to sit on the couch! It's just a case of getting out and getting on with it. I also try to exercise outdoors as much as I can, it's much more rejuvenating to run outdoors than on a treadmill! I also view it now as doing something for myself each day which is time I really value.
4. What are you working towards now? My next big target is the half marathon in May. It's a bit of a stretch for me and I'm a bit scared, but as long as I get round I'll be happy! After that it will be the City 2 Surf for the second year to try to beat my last year's time!
5. What is your exercise routine? I train with Nadine, my Fitness Inside Out trainer once a week ‚ that's enough for me to keep motivated and on track each week! Nadine is great at motivating me to enter races that I probably wouldn't do on my own and she also gives me some really good advice on my diet as I am still trying to lose a few pounds! At the moment, I run 4 times a week as I am following a half marathon plan although normally this is 3 times a week. I also have started Pilates as I find it really good to give my body a good stretch each week and Pilates is great at strengthening my core. If I have time I try to fit in a few bike rides, but these usually include a lazy picnic halfway round!

Jill's full commitment paired with her willingness to make some important lifestyle changes have been two of the key factors to her success, well done!
